Texas Bird Squares leverages off the resources of two important Avian programs, Audubon Climate Watch and Cornell Lab of Ornithology eBird.

Overview
To participate in Texas Bird Squares you should (see links below for detailed steps)

  1. Identify a chapter to work with and if they are not already participating work with them to sign up. 
  2. Pick a square (10km by 10km, 6.6 mile by 6.6 mile) from National Audubon’s grid for Climate Watch.  You will bird 12 points within the grid with a stationary count lasting 5 minutes per point.
  3. Pick the 12 points within the square.
  4. Bird the 12 points using the appropriate protocol during the season(s) you picked.
  5. Report the resulting 12 checklists to eBird and Climate Watch Portal (both required)
  6. Send the ebird checklist ids to AFT () and your chapter coordinator.

In subsequent seasons you can use the same square and skip steps 1-3.
