Data will be collected twice a year once during the winter season and again during the breeding season. Chapters may participate in one or both periods.

  1. Chapters recruit birders and coordinators to bird squares of the National Audubon Climate Watch (NACW) program. (see documentation on Audubon Climate Watch)
  2. Members can select any available square in the NACW program which has no current participant for the period and is at least 50% contained within the state of Texas.
  3. Members bird the square during the relevant period following all National Audubon Climate Watch requirements and procedures. Members must submit checklist to eBird. (see documentation on eBird)
  4. Chapters report to AFT the eBird checklist IDs to AFT. IDs are formated as Sdddddddd where “d” is a digit and S is the letter s.
  5. After submission of the checklist IDs, AFT will issue an unrestricted donation to the chapter to use to further its mission.

A convergence series is used to calculate the donation amount. The more squares birded the more the funds the chapter receives. The amount per square decreases with the number of squares birded.
